Maybe you have had a similar experience to me. You get a stron passion and desire to do something. Maybe it’s to pursue a new career, or to lose weight, or maybe you want to save money. you research and come up with a plan and you’re so excited to start. It goes really well for a while. Eventually though, that passion that was once so prevalent, is now nowhere to be found. You aren’t excited to do it, you are forcing yourself to do it. You continue like this for a little while longer but eventually you quit all together.
This isn’t just an occasional occurrence for me. This is a huge roadblock that has held me back from accomplishing some of the biggest goals and dreams of my life. Maybe you find yourself in a similar boat. How do we break free from this cycle? Are we doomed to be stuck in a cycle of starting and quittting for the rest of our lives?
Joshua 6:1-5 NIV
[1] Now the gates of Jericho were securely barred because of the Israelites. No one went out and no one came in. [2] Then the Lord said to Joshua, “See, I have delivered Jericho into your hands, along with its king and its fighting men. [3] March around the city once with all the armed men. Do this for six days. [4] Have seven priests carry trumpets of rams’ horns in front of the ark. On the seventh day, march around the city seven times, with the priests blowing the trumpets. [5] When you hear them sound a long blast on the trumpets, have the whole army give a loud shout; then the wall of the city will collapse and the army will go up, everyone straight in.”
We see in the book of Joshua how the Israelites take the city of Jericho. As they approach they aremade aware of the massice walls that surround the city. I love that God doesn’t bring down these walls right then and there. He could’ve easily had done that but instead He uses this to teach a principle. That principle is that when we worka t something EVERY DAY, God breaks down walls.
The march around Jericho wasn’t an overwhelmingly long walk. It was more important how often they did the right thing rather than how much. Right after God tells Joshua what He wants him to do, He tells him how consistent he should be. Our God is a God of principle, meaning that there are principles that we can see in scripture that will always be true. One of those principles is that God honors consistency!
So what does this mean for us practically? You don’t have to do a lot! You just need to do it often. We need to change our mindset from transforming our entire life and every habbit we have into a mindset where we are just focused on doing a little bit everyday. Start small and stick with it EVERYDAY. I believe if you and I can do this, 2025 will be the year of breakthrough when it comes to our dreams!
